Jose Puig Marti was born in Barcelona in 1932 and trained under his father, himself a working artist. Known for pushing himself across different mediums and techniques, Puig Marti’s work appeared in exhibitions throughout Europe and America during the mid to late 20th century.
Glamorous Cat is among his most recognizable and sought-after works. A cat, more queen than animal, sits in full composure against a warm golden ground. Her coat renders in swirling teal and turquoise, her body a universe of intricate patterning. Pearl necklace, ruby pendant, chandelier drops above. The piece sits precisely at the intersection of decorative art, pop sensibility, and mid-century European printmaking.
This is number 214 from a limited edition of 350, pencil signed by the artist in the lower right margin. Upon completion of the edition the stones or plates were defaced, ensuring that no further impressions of this image can ever be produced.
